What is the best poker book for improving your skills at No Limit Texas Hold 'em?

– I'm looking to improve my face-to-face skills, not online
– I already know the basic rules and play with friends once in a while, but I'm just not very good at it — hence the question…;-)
– Any advice on a good software program is also appreciated

Thanks! :;)

That's a hard question.

If you're a beginner, check out Phil Hellmuth's book, Play Poker Like the Pros. It covers all the games, and is well written. It makes learning new games easy.

If you're not a beginner there are many books that are great. Super System 2 is good because it covers all the games, and has a premium player writing each section. Phil Gordon's Little Green and Blue Books are great for NL cash games, and Dan Harrington's Harrington on Holdem I, 2 and 3 are great for tournament play. Another good book for playing low limit holdem, like in a casino, is Lee Jones' Winning Low Limit Holdem.

There are a few books that cover tells, too. Check out Mike Caro's Book of Tells. It's considered the bible of tells. There also a new book that I've heard good things about. It's called, Read'em and Reap. It's written by an ex FBI profiler. He teaches reading people at Phil Hellmuth's poker camps.
